Our Approach to Plant-Driven Landscape Design

We Design for Function, Flow, and What Actually Grows

We don’t believe in flashy drawings or expensive renderings that look good on a screen but fail in the ground. At Horticulture Specialists, our landscape design approach is built around real plant behavior, natural growth habits, site conditions, and functional use of space.

Every design starts with three simple questions:

  • What’s your goal? (Privacy, curb appeal, simplicity?)

  • What space are we working with? (Size, exposure, grade?)

  • How much effort do you want to maintain it?

From there, we create straightforward, clean 2D layouts that show you what to plant, where to plant it, and how to group everything by height, season, and impact. We don't care about filler. We care about plant longevity, spacing accuracy, and making your life easier in the long run.

This isn’t about throwing shrubs in the ground to get it done. This is about building structure, balance, and growth that lasts.

Designed by a Horticulturist — Not a CAD Technician

When you work with us, you’re not getting some anonymous rendering drawn by software. You’re getting a layout plan crafted by someone who knows the difference between a viburnum that works and one that dies, who’s dug the soil, planted the material, and watched it grow season to season.

This approach is what sets us apart:

  • 🌱 We prioritize plant health and spacing over fake visual mass

  • 🔍 We diagnose sun, drainage, and deer issues before we design

  • 🧭 We offer realistic plant choices based on your location — not trendy names

You're not just paying for a design. You're paying for horticultural insight built from years of hands-on experience — the kind landscapers and software tools can't fake.

This Is What You Get — And Nothing You Don’t

Every design includes:

  • 📄 A clean 2D layout drawing, labeled and scaled

  • 🪴 Suggested plant names or types (based on the info you give us)

  • 📏 Exact spacing and placement notes

  • 🧠 Optional notes on site prep, layering, or layout logic

No quotes. No hidden markup. No pressure to install or buy anything. Just a clear layout plan that helps you finally make progress.

We build designs for front yard cleanups, border plantings, privacy rows, backyard layouts, and more. Whether it’s a simple concept or a multi-area plan, our process stays the same — plant-smart, honest, and easy to follow.
